SBO 2006. The year when Australians finally decided to get off their bums and send a team of representatives to compete in this prestigious event held in Japan for fighting gamers.
Our team comprised of Aurik (oriku), Daine(TSC) and Garland(pK). Every man and his dog were rooting for this trio to do well in the last chance qualifiers. Thinking back, we were blessed to be given this chance to compete on an international level. If not for the vision of Daine in reviving the Sydney 3rd Strike scene no one could have imagined that we would have a team at Tougeki.
Although they didn’t win the remaining spot for the 32 team bracket in the finals, we still treated them as heroes and applauded them for their efforts. They managed to play many of the international and Japan players and became the envy of their peers back home in Australia. Many of the international players are currently in the same situation as us, to catch up to the Japanese level of play, as well as enjoy the social aspect among fellow enthusiasts.
The best news was yet to come ….. Daine managed to secure an automatic spot for Australia in next year’s tournament. AUSTRALIA HAS A SPOT. Pigs started flying and cab drivers required driving licences. Finally we have something to work towards.
