Going home
5 07 2005Singapore is and will always be my home. After drinking about 3 years of angmo ink I still yearn to be back. The winter holidays during June was the perfect time to escape the cold, although I did enjoy winter sports last year at Thredbo
Flight back
My trip started in the worst possible way. Thanks to the bitch behind the check-in counter, I was shafted into the back of the plane with a tour group of senile korean people. reaching my seat i was greeted with a old fool speako no england oooh. after getting a changed seat, another old fool behind me slapped my seat whenever i lower it down. I was going to nuke her with my OJ before i was reminded of how good a guy i was.
Bugis arcade
I hooked up with some of the guys through a thread on gamefaqs and discovered Bugis as one of the few remaining arcades that still had 3S. On the 1st day I went I was planning to meet up with El-Remanzuo who was back in Singapore for his bro’s wedding, which is eerily similiar to the reason for my last visit. Anyway, this is how the shopping center which houses the arcade looks like.

The arcade, VirtualLand is incredible in both size and available games. I would say its 3 times the size of Playtime (up and down stairs combined). InitialD has 12 linked driving machines, that shit is hot now because of a newly released same-name movie.

As for fighting games, many of the machines are head-to-head. This one will interest a number of you i bet, an ST cabinet.

SF games I counted four ST, one A3, one A2, one EX2, two CvS2, two MvC2 and one 3S. GGxr, Tekken5 and other 3D games are also available, this place is like Playtime on steroids and every requested game is available.
Singapore 3S scene
The 3S scene is surprisingly very strong. I lied on gamefaqs that I smack Kechu around easily and hype up my visit. Pretty soon players started showing up, after playing for about 24 hours in total spread over 4 visits some players stood out. Tin, an Akooma player who plays exactly like bbbb. Psychic parrying and punishment like bbbb does but he only uses SA2 uppercut super (insane damage!). Airconman who has a similar style to Tin and has better demon setups than bbbb. Raven, who uses Q kurodaly. hebretto dun give up on that slow fool! Raven also uses Urien with charge partitioning and we have been doing Urien-Urien matchups like me and bluey in Sydney. This matchup is crazy fun, i remember a highlight which involves a mid-air reset with EX aegis and I dashed up and did 4 fierce spheres to juggle and KOed him with a final shoulder crush. I also played Jurispridence from Melb back for a visit as well. I see now why u guys hate him so much
Narrowly missed out playing El-Remanzuo. Played Boon as well and as he found out with Jack’s Yun his Ryu tricks work on only those not used to proper distancing (Jack he says hi!). Boon is hilarious though, watching him play makes me crack up as he twitches his entire body and scolds the controls. He’s very hyperactive and putting on a show, I like it!
General view is that no one here is used to Genei-jin. Although I’m not at the level of Oriku, my Yun gets wins more easily through the tricks I learnt from Aurik and Jack. Combine that with my superior randomness my hit-and-run Yun pisses alot of players off. Dudley also gives them the shits because no one plays him here. His wakeup game is killing players who guess and not react. All in all, I am having fun as I play my fellow Singaporeans. I’m sure they will get used to defending genei-jin soon and then I will have to use my real skills. If you are planning to come to Singapore for a visit, you wouldn’t be disappointed by the variety and competition, visit www.arcadescrubs.com
I’ll be heading to Taiwan soon and report on my trip there, unfortunately this means I’ll miss OHN4 so those of you training to beat me in 3S can stop practising now. Good luck to the organisers, I bet this will be a huge success!
